Themasap Khan, PhD is a Co-Founder and Partner of Luma Group. Themasap leads the firm’s investment team with deep venture expertise and a specialized ability to identify emerging areas of biology with potential for new therapeutic development. He has over a decade of research experience in genomics, neuroscience, and cancer biology. Themasap has been an author on multiple scientific publications in Nature, Cell and other scientific journals. Themasap serves on several boards of portfolio companies at the firm. He focuses on the creation, investment, and development of companies in the life sciences focused on development therapies, diagnostics and medical devices.

 

Prior to Luma Group, Themasap was at Civilization Ventures. He joined the fund shortly after its inception and helped grow the firm into an early-stage biotech powerhouse, backing companies from Series Seed to IPO. Themasap was involved in helping run the firm’s functions across scientific strategy, operations, and business development, and he co-ran the firm’s pioneering Fellowship program.

 

Themasap received his PhD from Stanford University where he was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and Stanford Graduate Fellow. Themasap earned his BS in Neuroscience from New York University. He is also an active mentor with America Needs You (ANY), supporting first-generation college students as they navigate higher education and early career development.
